The Home has its humble beginning in Nsambya Hospital which was built by Mother Kevin in 1909. Plagues and incurable diseases were a common occurrence at the time and she set up an isolation ward for patients suffering of contagious and incurable diseases. Those terminally ill were helped to face death with courage under the compassionate love and care of the sisters. Since majority could not go back to their relatives, the sisters gave them a decent Christian burial in the parish cemetery. Mother Kevin left Nsambya for Nkokonjeru and in 1928 she put up an isolated structure for the elderly and children with disabilities. The first occupant was a young boy who was suffering from leprosy; he was sent by his aunt to Mother Kevin for treatment. With more children brought in to the Centre, Mother Kevin built a separate hospital for the victims of Leprosy in Buluba.
