In 2006, several friends from Romsey, Hampshire, went out to Uganda with the charity 'Habitat for Humanity'. During their visit, they met Charles Opio, who had recently started Wobulenzi Town Academy on a shoestring budget with no outside funding and all volunteer Ugandan staff. This meeting inspired further short-term visits to Uganda to help the school. In 2009, ServeDirect was formed as a UK registered charity, as those involved were committed to continue helping on a longer term basis. ServeDirect is founded on strong Christian principles, but our work is inclusive to people of all faith backgrounds. In 2010, fundraising and building commenced to relocate Wobulenzi Town Academy to new purpose built facilities within the nearby community of Lukomera. The new school site opened in 2011. Since then ServeDirect has partnered with the school to further improve facilities and the quality of education. ServeDirect relies on volunteers and has organised regular short term trips to
