Snow Rural Community Development Organization (SRCDO) was founded in 2006 by Bamwithaghe Moses, currently the Executive Director and guiding spirit. SRCDO started their first meetings under a mongo tree in Kasemire village, Kasokero parish, Kyondo Sub County, Kasese District, Uganda. It was named SRCDO to reflect all the communities living around the Snow Mountains of Rwenzori. In the local Lhukonzo language Snow signifies purity and transparency. SRCDO’s goals are to empower members of the local community, in order to improve their income and increase awareness of the prevention of HIV and AIDS. SRCDO has a membership of 17 women’s groups, representing approximately 600 household members. Each household supports, on average, 8 people, amounting to 4,800 indirect beneficiaries, plus 4,400 other community members with 8 people in the family, resulting in a total of some 35,000.
