About North Park Primary School

North Park School became apparent during 1968 and 1969 following the rapid development of private houses in the northern section of Mount Pleasant. In early 1969 a decision was taken by the Ministry of Education to build a school at the Groom-bridge site but when this became known by parents in the area of Northwood and Mount Pleasant Park, a request was made to re-consider the Groom-bridge decision to Dunkeld road site. In March 1969, the Regional Education Officer, Mr. A.H Siemens decided to carry out a census of the families in the Mount Pleasant area to help the Ministry of education to decide the most suitable site. Mr. Percy Yates who was the Acting Education Officer at the time, took a major role in the census. In June 1969, the Dunkeld Road site was chosen. In July 1969 work commenced on building two blocks of four classrooms each and the administration block. Mr. Percy Yates was appointed the first headmaster of the school with effect from 1 January 1970. The school open
