Mbare is a high density southern suburb of Harare Zimbabwe. It was the first high density suburb (township) established in 1907 by the colonial government to provide accommodation to Africans staying in Harare. Chirodzo Primary School which is located at the corner of Simon Mazorodze Road and Remembrance Drive in Mbare was established in 1954.The name Chirodzo though from the Shona language meaning sharpener has its origins from the Old Testament specifically the book of Proverbs chapter 27 verse 17 which reads “By iron, iron itself is sharpened so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” The school motto is “Simbi inorodza Simbi” meaning people learn from one another as iron sharpens iron. Currently the school has 1383 pupils comprising of 720 boys and 663 girls, most of them residing in Mbare High Density suburb. The school boasts of 38 qualified teachers who show much commitment to their work of sharpening the minds and skills of the learners.
