GAWL is a private automobile workshop owned by the Gajjar Family. The business was established in 1968 by the three brothers; Ratilal Jivraj, Chandrakant and Ramesh Gajjar, in Dar es Salaam, who originated from Zanzibar. A small car workshop was set up in Keko Mwanga, which was in operation for 9 years, and thereafter in 1977, the company expanded to its current premises at Lugoda Street. 

The business ran successfully by the three brothers, at the time Mr. Praful Gajjar joined and began training under the supervision of his uncles. Over time, he ensured the expansion of the business by investing in the latest garage technology such as Car Lifts, Tyre Changers, Wheel Alignment, and various other machines from Europe. In the year 2000, he introduced the famous brand Sikkens into the business (a reputable product of Akzo Nobel) when it was just launched in Tanzania.
